The Arsenal player was the clear winner in our poll, ahead of his Newcastle United and Manchester United rivals.
HITC Sport readers have had their say, and they have overwhelmingly voted Robin van Persie as the Player of the Year.
Almost 3,000 have cast their vote already, and the Dutchman’s lead is unassailable.
He is a clear winner with 69 per cent of the vote, almost 2,000.
Second placed Demba Ba has 14 per cent of the vote, with 400 choosing him.
Wayne Rooney claimed third place with eight per cent of the vote, from 200 plus fans.
Trailing the top three were David Silva (six per cent), Sergio Aguero, Clint Dempsey, and Stephane Sessegnon, who shared one per cent of the votes each.
We included another option for ‘other’ – which took two per cent of the vote, with readers also voting for Vincent Kompany, Tim Krul, Paul Scholes, Jonny Evans, Yaya Toure, Hatem Ben Arfa, Antonio Valencia, Leon Britton, Michel Vorm, Juan Mata, Laurent Koscielny, Alex Song, Yakubu, Luis Suarez, Woljciech Szczesny and Fabricio Coloccini,
Our verdict: We say Robin van Persie is a deserved winner. While many players have performed well over the season, Van Persie has been amazingly consistent throughout. He has enjoyed a special season, and has to be a certainty for the PFA Player of the Year Award, and the Football Writers Player of the Year Award. Demba Ba and Wayne Rooney have had superb seasons, but if it had not been Van Persie coming out on top, it would have been the wrong result.
