Aston Villa ace Conor Hourihane starred for the Republic of Ireland in their Euro 2020 qualifier against Switzerland at the Aviva Stadium and put in a display that was generally praised by claret and blues and greens alike.
Fabian Schar gave the Swiss visitors a lead in the 74th minute, coolly sweeping home at the end of a team move, but David McGoldrick got on the end of James McClean’s cross and nodded home five minutes from time.
Hourihane started the game for Mick McCarthy’s side and was bright throughout, showing plenty of energy in the middle of the park and weighing in with some dangerous deliveries – indeed, his 82nd-minute substitution proved controversial amongst some fans.
