The St Mary’s Stadium academy graduate put in a good display for the Boys in Green, proving to be one of his side’s more threatening front line players and featuring for 75 minutes before being replaced by Gavin Kilkenny, a decision which some fans didn’t agree with.
Svein Aron Gudjohnsen, son of former Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen, ended the Republic’s unbeaten start to their Under-21 European Championship qualification campaign by converting a penalty in the first half of a game played in very windy conditions.
Stephen Kenny’s side, who lost Lee O’Connor to a second booking late on, remain top of their group but Iceland and Italy could knock them off the summit by winning their games in hand.
