Tottenham Hotspur star’s inclusion in the England squad ahead of Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand has caused controversy.
Danny Rose was one of five Tottenham players named in the England squad for the World Cup and he is easily the most controversial.
Rose actually began the World Cup qualifiers as clear first choice but his knee injury in January 2017 proved far more challenging to his career than he first imagined.
The left-back found it tough to regain his spot in the Tottenham first team ahead of Ben Davies and the conversion of Ashley Young and Fabian Delph to left-backs at their respective clubs increased the competition.
Rose scraped into the England squad, but it was at the expense of Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand.
Bertrand’s omission and Rose’s inclusion has been criticised strongly by fans on Twitter, in light of Joe Hart and Jack Wilshere’s omissions for lack of playing time.

Rose has played fewer Premier League games than both Wilshere and Hart, while Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand has played 35 games.
England boss Gareth Southgate clearly felt that Rose was simply the better player, while his chemistry with his Tottenham teammates could also have worked in his favour.
Yet this did not cut much ice with supporters who described Rose’s inclusion in the squad as a ‘joke’.
