Nottingham Forest midfielder Jorge Grant has this week joined Mansfield Town on a loan until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old saw his spell at Luton Town cut short last week, having made 22 appearances for the Hatters, scoring four goals according to Luton Today.

On the surface, it seems a sensible and innocuous deal, with the Stags currently fifth in League Two, two points outside the automatic promotion places, and Grant being a proven asset at that level.

However, the move has caused a stir in Nottinghamshire, given Grant had previously excelled at Mansfield’s bitter rivals, Notts County, scoring 25 goals and claiming 12 assists in 73 games over two loan spells (Transfermarkt).

The midfielder’s contributions for the Magpies in the second half of the 2016-17 season helped them survive in the Football League, while the following term saw Notts finish in the playoffs.

However, County are now languishing at the bottom of the division, while the Stags are in contention for promotion to League One, so Grant’s loan move to Mansfield has given their fans another opportunity to mock their rivals.
