Sheffield Wednesday’s Barry Bannan played all of Scotland’s World Cup qualifier while Celtic’s Callum McGregor was left as unused substitute.
Scotland kept their World Cup qualifying hopes alive as a late Martin Skrtel own goal gave Gordon Strachan’s men a massive three points that sends them second in their group ahead of their final game.
The Scots dominated the game and should have been ahead much earlier than the 89th minute, but an inspired performance from Slovakia goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and an excellent cameo from the away side’s crossbar kept Strachan’s men at bay until the dying minutes.

Barry Bannan played the full 90 minutes at Hampden Park after his fantastic display in Sheffield Wednesday’s emphatic Championship win over Leeds at the weekend.
And interestingly, the 27-year-old’s performance appears to have left supporters completely divided on social media – with some suggesting that he was brilliant on the night, especially in the second-half, while others are adamant that he was awful.
In fairness to Bannan, some of his crosses into the box in the latter stages looked extremely threatening.
And many of the Celtic fans who were disappointed with Bannan’s display were in no doubt that Strachan made the wrong decision picking the Owls man ahead of Callum McGregor.
McGregor has been excellent this season but only received a call-up after squad withdrawals, and remained an unused substitute at Hampden. And that has left many fans annoyed despite the win.
