A number of fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Paul Merson’s suggestion that Arsenal should “break the bank” to being Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers to the King Power Stadium (Sky Sports News).
The Foxes are currently flying high in the Premier League, sitting third in the table, and there is real optimism around the club with hopes of a top-four finish and comparisons made between the current crop and the squad of 2015-16.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are very much labouring under Unai Emery at present, sitting fifth in the standings on 17 points and having suffered some poor results in recent weeks, including a 1-0 loss at Sheffield United.
The two sides lock horns at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, with Arsenal at risk of slipping nine points behind the Foxes, and ahead of the Premier League clash, the Gunners cult hero believes the North Londoners should pull out all the stops to bring Rodgers to the Emirates in future.
I cannot speak highly enough of Rodgers,” Merson wrote on Sky Sports News. “Chairmen up and down the country will be thinking ‘how did we not get him?’ This Leicester team were languishing in mid-table and going nowhere until Rodgers came in, and in less than 12 months he’s got the whole squad are playing with confidence, they all know they are doing and look like a proper team.
“Rodgers has done so well that Leicester have a job on their hands keeping hold of him. If I were Arsenal, I’d be breaking the bank to get him, give him a five-year contract and sit back and watch him transform the club.”
