Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Sardar Azmoun, but the Zenit St Petersburg ace couldn’t help his side secure a result at Chelsea.

Zenit made the trip to London with many expecting them to come up well short against the Blues, who look strong in the Premier League.

It turned out to be a tricky game for Chelsea. Zenit actually ended the game with greater xG than Chelsea – but it’s the final score that truly matters.

Romelu Lukaku bagged the only goal of the game, giving Chelsea a 1-0 win. Tottenham may well have been looking at Azmoun last night, given their recent interest.

Tottenham’s interest in Azmoun

Tottenham were seeking striking additions over the summer. Their pursuit did though slow down went Harry Kane made it clear he was staying.

One of Tottenham’s striker targets was Azmoun.

The Iranian claimed earlier this month that Tottenham made an offer for him.

Zenit wanted to keep Azmoun, so rejected Tottenham as well as Bayer Laverkusen, Lyon and Roma.

Azmoun hit 19 goals in 24 games for Zenit last season. Out of contract next summer, Azmoun could be a bargain signing for Tottenham as they look to help Kane up top.

Fans on Twitter react to Azmoun display

On Tuesday night, Azmoun started for Zenit in their 1-0 defeat at Tottenham.

Neutrals and Chelsea fans commented on Twitter about Azmoun, with some fans impressed.

Some believe that Azmoun is ‘way ahead’ of Russian football, and looked ‘quite good’ against Chelsea.

Others believe Azmoun looked better in a front two rather than up front on his own, but ultimately think he can make a big move – possibly to Tottenham.
