Tottenham Hotspur’s Cameron Carter-Vickers featured for the United States on Tuesday night.
The United States were in action on Tuesday night, as they took on Paraguay in North Carolina, and claimed a 1-0 win over the South American side.
US football was rocked by the national team’s inability to qualify for the World Cup, meaning they will miss international football’s biggest tournament for the first time since 1986.
Dave Sarachan is in caretaker charge of the US side following Bruce Arena’s departure, and he fielded an experimental line up, which included youngsters such as Matt Miazga, Tyler Adams, Marky Delgado and Timothy Weah.
Striker Bobby Wood scored the only goal of the game, converting a penalty on the stroke of half time, handing the US a 1-0 win as they look to kickstart their new era.
Another youngster to feature for Sarachan was Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, who was called upon to partner Chelsea-owned Miazga at centre back.
Carter-Vickers, 20, was born in England but qualifies to play for the US through his father, and racked up nearly 30 caps for the United States across various youth levels.
Now a senior player, Carter-Vickers earned his second cap for his country on Tuesday night, and seemingly impressed fans with his performance as the Ipswich Town loanee seized his chance to shine.
Fans took to Twitter during and after the game to hail Carter-Vickers’ partnership with Miazga, suggesting it’s a combination which must be used going forward, though some feel he can use his body better to position himself and improve at playing out from the back, but it was all-round decent display.
