Kalidou Koulibaly helped Napoli secure a clean sheet against Champions League holders Liverpool on Tuesday night.
Liverpool fans on Twitter have raved about Kalidou Koulibaly’s performance during Napoli’s 2-0 win over the Champions League holders on Tuesday night.
Koulibaly, who was voted Serie A’s best defender last season, produced a rock-solid display against one of the most fearsome front three’s in Europe.
In the summer, Il Mattino claimed that Liverpool enquired about the services of Koulibaly, with his Italian club seemingly demanding £100 million for his services, at the time.
Well, Koulibaly showcased why he is worth such amount when his team kept that clean sheet and secured all three points in their opening Champions League encounter.
Despite their team losing on the night, the Liverpool supporters on Twitter were impressed with what Koulibaly was producing out on the pitch.
He had a very good battle with Liverpool’s forward line, especially Mo Salah, who forced the powerhouse to fall flat on his face after he cut inside of him in the first half.
Nonetheless, the Anfield faithful admitted that Koulibaly put in an ‘exceptional’ display on the night, as Dries Mertens and Fernando Llorente scored the goals for their team.
Given the talent within Napoli’s squad, the experience and history manager Carlo Ancelotti has, then Napoli may well be that surprise package in the competition this season – and if they do impress then the value of some of their players will only increase.
