Everton supporters have been left frustrated by the persistent struggles of Ross Barkley since he returned from injury.

Barkley missed much of pre-season with a knee injury and he seems to be suffering with a lack of match sharpness.

Despite playing 10 games since coming back in October, the 20-year-old has struggled to find his top form and is rather encapsulating Everton’s problems at the moment.

The Toffees have failed to reach the heights of last season and their 1-1 draw with Hull City last night has increased the pressure on Barkley even further.

The attacking midfielder stood out during the previous season, but he was wasteful in possession yesterday.

Barkley was dispossessed twice and only managed to complete 50% of his eight dribbles. Even more worryingly for a creative influence, Barkley did not manage to create a chance for his teammates.

It was a display which has even led to some fans even believing the club should cash-in on him in January. That looks unlikely, given Barkley recently signed a new contract to stay at Goodison Park, but it is an example of the frustrations which are being felt at the Merseyside club.

It could have all been so different if they had held onto their lead against the Tigers yesterday evening, too.

Everton went in-front during the first-half thanks to a powerful strike from Romelu Lukaku, but Sone Aluko’s solo goal pegged them back and saw their troubles increase.

Everton are currently down in 11th position in the Premier League table and unless a serious improvement occurs soon they will struggled to meet their expectations of getting into Europe this season.
