A number of fans have been commenting on Twitter about Everton defender Seamus Coleman’s disappointing performance in the Republic of Ireland’s 2-0 loss to Switzerland on Tuesday night.

The Toffees and Boys in Green captain – who was sent off in his last game for Marco Silva’s side – was sloppy in possession, giving the ball away on numerous occasions, and was walking a tightrope as soon as the 31st minute following a tangle with an opponent.

Coleman was shown a second yellow card in the 76th minute for a handball, which yielded a penalty that Darren Randolph kept out, but even before being sent off, he was struggling for his nation.

Here is some of the reaction on social media to the Goodison Park man’s display:

Haris Seferovic’s 16th-minute strike proved the difference between the two sides, before the home side sealed the win thanks to Shane Duffy’s own goal, leaving the Irish needing to battle it out with Denmark in Dublin next month.

Coleman has been on the books at Everton since 2009, is contracted to the Toffees until the summer of 2022 (Transfermarkt) on a reported £70,000-per-week deal (Spotrac), with close to 300 senior appearances under his belt, and currently valued at £13.5million (Transfermarkt).
