A number of West Ham fans took to Twitter to comment on a video that the club posted on social media showing Aaron Cresswell scoring a stunning free-kick on the training ground.

Manuel Pellegrini is beginning his first pre-season as the new Hammers boss. And while he would have known about much of his squad before they returned, he will undoubtedly be looking for players to surprise him or perhaps encourage him heading into his first campaign at the helm at the London Stadium.

And it appears that Cresswell may have done exactly that as he scored a superb free-kick in training. The left-back managed to curl the ball into the top corner with some power from well outside the box.

Every Love Island contestant if they were an England player – World Cup!

It is certainly no secret that the 28-year-old has the potential to be absolutely lethal from dead-ball situations, but it is an extremely encouraging sign given that he has perhaps not been at his best over the last couple of years.

The former Ipswich Town ace still managed to provide seven assists in the Premier League last season, but he came in for criticism at various stages throughout the campaign. And while those comments were often more to do with his defending than his contribution in the final third, the goal in pre-season has given them reason for optimism.

Many took to Twitter to express their hope that Pellegrini can help bring the best out of Cresswell once again, while one supporter even tweeted Gareth Southgate in response to the video, seemingly hoping that the defender will somehow earn the chance to add to his three caps before the World Cup concludes.
