Southampton supporters are amongst the fans commenting on Twitter after Jan Bednarek endured a torrid evening that ended prematurely for the 21-year-old against England’s under-21s.

Bednarek is a name that is probably becoming slightly more familiar to Saints fans, with the club reportedly making a £4.5 million bid for the centre-back that has since been rejected, according to The Sun.

The Sun adds that Southampton are preparing to go back in with an improved bid for the Lech Poznan youngster, but it could require a fee of £7.5 million for the south coast club to bring him to the Premier League.

But judging by his display in Poland under-21s’ emphatic defeat to their English counterparts, Saints fans will be hoping that the club decide against offering the fee that Poznan are looking for.

Not only did Poland complete their miserable tournament by losing 3-0 to Aidy Boothroyd’s men, but Bednarek failed to see out the game, picking up a second yellow in the final 10 minutes for fouling Tammy Abraham inside the penalty area.

And it appears that some of the Saints supporters who are among those who have taken to social media are hoping that the club are convinced to avoid pursuing a move as, based on that display, he appears to be some way short of being a top flight player currently – though it would of course be harsh to judge him on just one performance.

Here is the best of the reaction…
