West Ham signing Fabianski started his first World Cup match on Thursday.

New West Ham United signing Lukasz Fabianski impressed for Poland on Thursday afternoon as he helped his country earn their first points of the World Cup.
Fabianski, 33, joined West Ham last week for a fee believed to be in the region of £7million, after suffering relegation with Swansea City – where he played all 38 Premier League games last season.

Following the confirmation of his move, the former Arsenal goalkeeper was given the chance to shine between the sticks with Poland already knocked out of the World Cup in Group H. They beat Japan 1-0, thanks to Jan Bednarek’s header.

Japan pushed but were unable to beat Fabianski, who produced a solid performance to earn the Pole’s first and only clean sheet of the tournament. Now, the goalkeeper is likely to earn a break before returning to West Ham training.

Fabianski is expected to become the Hammers’ new number one stopper ahead of Spanish goalkeeper Adrian, after Joe Hart returned to Manchester City following the end of his season-long loan.
West Ham fans were impressed by Fabianski’s performance, but they were not the only ones:
Poland fans were also very impressed with Fabianski’s display, with the majority stating that he should have started over Wojciech Szczesny to begin with.
