Will Madger Gomes develop into a star at Leeds and will Liverpool regret letting him leave?

Madger Gomes wasted little time making an impression at Leeds United following signing for the club last week.

The 20-year-old had just been released from Liverpool’s academy, having joined the Reds from Villarreal in 2014.

Gomes signed to join Leeds’ under-23 squad, but he was involved in the club’s first pre-season friendly of the campaign along with several first team players.

He clearly had already caught the eye of new manager Thomas Christiansen to be named in his first ever XI, and made his debut a memorable one.

Gomes scored Leeds’ second goal of the game in a 4-2 win over non-league Harrogate, following up an opener from Kemar Roofe.

The young Spaniard’s goal was followed up by a strike from Pablo Hernandez before Lee Erwin struck, earning Leeds a 4-2 victory.

This could be as good as it gets for Gomes this season, with Leeds still missing first team players, his elevation to a starting role could soon disappear when they return, and when further new signings arrive.

He at least showed that he should be considered for further opportunities, and fans of the Whites are optimistic they have signed a gem, at Liverpool’s expense.
