Newcastle United may have seen Islam Slimani’s last action for the club.
Newcastle United’s surprise 1-0 home defeat to West Bromwich Albion handed Rafael Benitez a second defeat in a row – and it it appears to have been the final game for one Magpies player.
The Magpies had won four games in a row before losing 1-0 at Everton last week, effectively guaranteeing their Premier League survival, but Saturday’s defeat to West Brom was a major disappointment.
Not only have Newcastle been left to reflect on losing to the Premier League’s bottom club, but they now have to deal with a major impact on Islam Slimani’s future with the club.
The Algerian striker only played 25 minutes against West Brom as a substitute, but managed to get himself in hot water having been spotted kicking out at Baggies defender Craig Dawson.
The FA have today confirmed that Slimani has been charged with violent conduct, and if found guilty, he will be banned for three games – which would bring his Newcastle career to an end.
Slimani, a deadline day loan signing in January from Leicester City, was supposed to arrive to score goals, but made just one start and three substitute appearances in an injury-hit spell.
Now, with his final Newcastle game seemingly already played, Magpies fans have taken to Twitter to call the situation an ‘utter shambles’ having seen another loan striker struggle, whilst also blasting Benitez’s decision to loan Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham and sign Slimani in his place.
