Celtic’s Dedryck Boyata is heading to the World Cup…..and some fans are shocked.

It’s probably fair to say that Dedryck Boyata had a mixed season with Celtic.

The former Manchester City centre-back helped Celtic to a second successive domestic treble in Scotland, but on an individual level he suffered in a big way at times.

The 27-year-old was never dropped by Brendan Rodgers, unlike centre-back partner Jozo Simunovic, but Boyata certainly must have tested the Hoops manager’s patience at one point.

Nevertheless, Boyata, who joined Celtic for £1.5 million in 2015, has just been named in Belgium’s official World Cup squad ahead of their adventure in Russia this month.

And some fans on Twitter are genuinely surprised by his inclusion. Here is how they reacted:

With Toby Alderweireld, Thomas Vermaelen, Vincent Kompany and Jan Vertonghen also included in the squad, Boyata may not play a single minute of football.

That being said, some of those – especially Vermaelen and Kompany – do not exactly boast flawless injury histories, so it certainly isn’t impossible that the Celtic man’s chances improve during the tournament.
