The UEFA Nations League continued on Sunday night, as World Cup winners France hosted the Netherlands at the Stade de France.

France had opened up their campaign with a 0-0 draw against Germany, but underlined their quality with a fine performance against the Netherlands.

Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring for France, but they were pegged back in the second half when ex-Liverpool winger Ryan Babel notched an equaliser.

France did get their win though, as Olivier Giroud ended his lengthy international goal drought to hand Didier Deschamps’ men all three points.

Ronald Koeman may not be too disappointed given that he is attempted to bed a number of young players into an exciting side, including midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

De Jong, 21, has emerged as one of the top Dutch talents around, and was their star performer against France as he yet again impressed with his technique, maturity, dribbling and passing range.

The midfielder is a wanted man around Europe, with Mundo Deportivo reporting on Sunday that Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur have both failed with bids to snap him up in January.

After impressing against France, fans took to Twitter to hail De Jong, suggesting that he is ‘truly special’ and could be the next Luka Modric or Andrea Pirlo – and one fan believed that means that he won’t be signing for Spurs as a result.

Tottenham fans called on Tottenham to get a deal done for De Jong as soon as possible, with one Arsenal fan admitting that he would be distraught if the Dutchman ever heads to Spurs, whilst Barcelona and Everton fans also watched on in admiration.
