With the World Cup on the horizon, more and more nations are naming their squads for the tournament in Russia, with some decisions more perplexing than others.

The likes of England, Brazil, Spain and France have named their final 23-man squads, whilst others such as Germany and Croatia still need to trim their provisional squads.

Belgium named their provisional squad earlier this week, and whilst the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, Vincent Kompany, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Thibaut Courtois were naturally a part of the squad, not all of Roberto Martinez’s decisions went down well.

Martinez has called up a woefully out of form Christian Benteke, as well as Nacer Chadli, who hasn’t played a full 90 minutes since August, whilst his call-up of Dedryck Boyata has also left many baffled.

Celtic defender Boyata has been accused of being error-prone over the years, and whilst he has played a part in a second straight domestic treble for the Bhoys this season, many are baffled by the decision to include him in the Belgium squad.

Fans took to Twitter to share their disbelief that Boyata has been called up whilst Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan – a Champions League semi-finalist – has been left out completely.

Even Celtic fans couldn’t quite believe that decision, but it remains to be seen whether he makes the cut for the final squad this summer.
