This week saw Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku suggest a Premier League All-Star game should take place at the end of the season, similar to the system they currently have in the major American sports leagues.

Jonjo Shelvey of Newcastle United and Paul Pogba of Manchester United
One name whose presence in a lot of the North XI’s that got some stick was Paul Pogba. He has had a troublesome season with Manchester United and that saw some fans suggest alternatives.
Newcastle United fans were in no doubt who that alternative should be – Jonjo Shelvey.
The Toon midfielder is undoubtedly a talented player, but his work ethic is often questioned. He highlighted his lack of defensive movement as Bournemouth recovered from 2-0 down to draw level. It turns out he was injured, carrying a knee problem, which may explain it.

He also put in one of the passes of the season as a pre-assist for Newcastle’s first goal and his range of passing is definitely one of the best in the Premier League.
Shelvey had a blinder for Newcastle against Pogba when they beat Manchester United earlier this month and that also was fresh in the memory for Newcastle fans.
Overall, they felt that the English midfielder deserved his place in a North XI much more than the often over-hyped £90 million Frenchman.
