Glasgow Rangers full-back James Tavernier had a perfect week to bounce back from the lows at Livingston the previous weekend.

The Rangers captain was excellent in midweek in the club’s Europa League win over Rapid Vienna, scoring a penalty.

Tavernier followed that up with a starring display against league leaders Hearts as Rangers cut into their lead at the top of the Premiership.

Steven Gerrard said this weekend that teams must back off if they want to try and sign Tavernier, or be prepared to break the bank, SkySports reported.

After Tavernier’s latest efforts, bookies William Hill hailed the Rangers star, asking if there is an English right-back anywhere who is in better form.

The responses which were not from Rangers fans were in strong disagreement with the Tavernier claim.

English football fans particularly give little credence to Tavernier’s efforts, rating the Scottish league as too weak.

In the Rangers’ star’s favour is the fact he has been starring in the Europa League, with Rangers’ topping their group.

A few more performances like the one on Thursday, and he may get the respect he wants.

At the moment, the reaction from opposing fans shows they aren’t buying into the Tavernier hype…
