The date and venue for Zuffa Boxing’s debut event have now been confirmed.

The first official Zuffa Boxing event now has a confirmed date and location, but rather than generating excitement, the update has intensified doubts surrounding Dana White’s ambitious new venture. Critics within the boxing world, including promoter Eddie Hearn, had already questioned the lack of momentum behind the launch, and the latest information has done little to shift that narrative.

Although expectations rose after the high-profile clash between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford in September, the build-up to Zuffa Boxing’s debut has remained surprisingly muted. While several signings have been reported, the absence of promotional energy has left many fans unconvinced about the project’s early direction.

On January 6, it was confirmed by the Nevada Athletic Commission — via reporter Damon Martin — that Zuffa Boxing’s inaugural card will take place on January 23 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The venue choice, however, quickly became the main source of criticism.

Social media reactions were dominated by disappointment, with many fans mocking the decision to host the first event in the Apex rather than a major arena. Comments describing the move as “pathetic,” “embarrassing,” and a “huge fumble” highlighted widespread frustration, with particular fatigue over combat sports events being staged in the warehouse-style venue.

While a handful of supporters attempted to find positives — including the possibility that the Apex’s ongoing expansion might allow a larger crowd — no timeline has yet been announced for those changes.

Zuffa Boxing still holds major backing despite rocky start

Despite the sceptical response, Zuffa Boxing enters the market with substantial financial and media support, having already secured a rights deal with Paramount and committing to 12 events in 2026. That level of investment suggests the promotion is in this for the long haul, even if its opening chapter has failed to impress.

January 23 may mark only the beginning, but the tone of that debut could play a crucial role in shaping the promotion’s reputation moving forward — especially among fans who are already questioning its vision.
