Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata did not enjoy the best evening as Belgium suffered a heavy defeat.

Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata was one of the players who came in for plenty of criticism on social media after Belgium’s stunning defeat against Switzerland.

Roberto Martinez’s men were denied a place in the Nations League final despite taking a two-goal lead within 17 minutes. Thorgan Hazard was the man to bag both goals.

The Swiss would then score five goals to book their place in Portugal next summer – and that prompted major questions to be asked of the Belgium defence, which included Boyata.

It must be noted that Boyata did not seem to receive the kind of criticism that came Vincent Kompany’s way following the defeat, but many still feel that the Hoops man does not deserve a spot in the side, especially after the latest performance.

He appeared to miss crucial headers in the build-up to a couple of the goals, and he did not look like the player that Celtic fans have seen for much of this campaign.

While many supporters are slamming Boyata’s performance, there was one Celtic fan who suggested that the centre-back’s disappointing evening can only help Brendan Rodgers’ side as they look to try and hold onto the former Manchester City man over the coming months.
