The New York Knicks have finally ended their 63-year championship drought with their victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

The Knicks beat the Atlanta Hawks, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Cleveland Cavaliers to advance to the NBA Finals.

They were significant underdogs against the San Antonio Spurs, but they defeated the favourites in just five games.

Jalen Brunson scored 45 points as the Knicks won 94-90 in Game 5 in San Antonio to clinch the title.

Knicks fans have certainly lived up to their reputation in the hours since winning the NBA Championship.

One fan has now contextualised how long they have waited to celebrate a title by naming things that didn’t exist 63 years ago.

The astonishing things that didn’t exist when New York were champions

X user Jon Erlichman named dozens of things that did not exist when the Knicks last won an NBA title in 1973.

Tech giants Apple, Microsoft and Google, and social media sites Facebook, YouTube and WhatsApp had not been invented.

A-list celebrities Taylor Swift, Beyonce, LeBron James, Tom Brady, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were not born.

Meanwhile, several NBA teams, including the Orlando Magic and the Dallas Mavericks, had not been established.

The Knicks have long been considered one of the top-tier franchises in the NBA, but without the success to match.

Jalen Brunson and company have now transformed the narrative surrounding New York basketball for at least the next decade.

Although the World Cup is ongoing, many would say this is already nailed on to be the biggest story in sports this year.

The Knicks are still only fourth favourites to win the championship next season, highlighting their huge overachievement.

But they should not be thinking about next season just yet; it is the Knicks fans’ time to enjoy breaking the 63-year curse.
