Dean Windass, father of Glasgow Rangers midfielder Josh Windass, has criticised the former Celtic striker turned pundit.

Four-time Scottish Premier League and one time Premier League winner Chris Sutton has not been short of criticism since making the switch from playing to talking about the beautiful game. There has been particular distaste from the blue side of Glasgow towards Sutton, a former Celtic forward of course, for his perceived bias, which has often resulted in a war of words on Twitter.

Dean Windass is the latest figure to wade in on the social media platform, taking aim at the fellow retired striker and questioning his abilities as a commentator in typically self-deprecating style. Windass’ son Josh signed for Glasgow Rangers in the summer, and the former Aberdeen man has clearly been less than impressed with Sutton’s coverage since his renewed interest in Scottish football.

Windass tweeted (as above), “I wonder if Chris Sutton is a Celtic fan wow thought I was a bad commentator’. The tweet was naturally well received by Rangers fans, who have long grown frustrated of Sutton’s coverage of their club, and were in a particularly agitated mood following a disappointing defeat to Hearts.

Unlike when criticised by the likes of Peter Lovenkrands in recent times, Sutton did not respond to Windass’ less than complimentary remarks, choosing instead to continue tweeting about the game, commenting that, ‘Rangers mauled but Hearts superb on the night.’

Windass’ son Josh has had a mixed start to life at Ibrox. The former Accrington midfielder has shown glimpses of what he is capable of, but has at times gone missing, as well as having had various injury and fitness struggles.

The man who fired Hull City to promotion to the Premier League back in 2008 is naturally keen to see his son start more games, and the 23-year-old struggled to get into the game once again for the Gers, having been introduced on 61 minutes, with Mark Warburton’s men already 3-1 down.
