The New York Knicks’ first NBA title in 53 years was always going to spark huge celebrations.
Their fans are known for turning big moments into street parties, and the Game 5 win brought the kind of scenes expected after such a long wait.
But that celebration night also had its sad episodes, and one of them happened after police in Los Angeles responded to a screaming report involving a family celebrating the Knicks.
LAPD fatally shoot family dog after Knicks title celebration call

The incident happened in Canoga Park shortly after the Knicks sealed the championship, when LAPD officers were sent to an apartment following a report of a screaming woman.
According to police, officers were directed to the apartment and encountered a large barking dog when the resident opened the door.
LAPD said the woman was asked to secure the dog, briefly closed the door, then reopened it before the dog came outside and moved towards an officer.
The officer then fired, killing Jameson, a two-year-old doodle who was wearing a Knicks jersey at the time.
Footage from the aftermath showed the dog’s owner distraught near the front door while officers remained outside the apartment.
Local advocates have since called for body-camera footage to be released, saying the family deserves answers and the public deserves transparency over how a celebration ended so painfully.
