It has been a quiet transfer window for Tottenham Hotspur so far, with there being no arrivals at the club, while there haven’t been any permanent departures.

There could be some activity in the closing stages of the transfer window, however, as according to L’Equipe (printed edition; 18/01/2018 – page 3) Tottenham have opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a possible deal for Lucas Moura.

If Moura was to join Tottenham then it is anticipated that the fee to bring him to the club could be €30 million (£26.48 million).

It is clear that Tottenham cannot compete financially with the likes of Manchester City, and, in such circumstances, Lucas represents the best that they can hope for in terms of the calibre of players that they can attract.

The Brazilian is undoubtedly a hugely talented player but he has endured a very frustrating season so far at PSG as he has been restricted to just five appearances in Ligue 1.

Tottenham may not be able to sign the best players in the world, but Lucas would represent an excellent signing for Mauricio Pochettino’s side given his creativity and flair.

Last season Lucas was hugely influential for PSG as he scored 12 times and provided five assists in Ligue 1.

If he was given regular playing time in the Premier League then Lucas could surely make a significant impact and Tottenham should certainly look to do a deal if they possibly can.

At present Tottenham’s main focus should be on attempting to bring in players who were once tipped for stardom but have struggled to reach those lofty heights. Such players are attainable and could still prove to be useful assets for Tottenham.
