Armin Gigovic has taken aim at ‘false rumours’ linking the reported Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers target with a move away from Helsingborg, in quotes reported by Buon Calcio a Tutti.
Both Wolves and the Gunners continue to scour the market for rough diamonds whose precocious talents have gone unnoticed elsewhere.
Perhaps inspired by the success of Gabriel Martinelli, Pedro Neto and co, a pair of Premier League sides are allegedly sending scouts to Scandinavia with another under-the-radar teenager in their sights.
At the age of 18, Gigovic is already firmly established as one of the first names on Helsinborg’s team sheet these days.
The Sweden U17 star has started each of his side’s 13 Allsvenskan fixtures so far this season, scoring his first ever senior goal with a last-gasp equaliser against Djurgarden in June.
Not for the first time, Gigovic has made it clear that he sees his immediate future at Helsingborg despite reports suggesting that he already has one foot out of the door.
“It seems that someone is spreading false rumuors. I, myself, was shocked (to hear them),” says the rangy midfielder, who is also being linked with Serie A strugglers Genoa.
“The question is between the clubs, agents and so on; nothing I need to focus on. Yesterday wasn’t my last game (for Helsingborg), absolutely not.
“There are still other games to play.”
Like almost every other club on the planet, however, Helsingborg have been hit hard by an ongoing financial crisis.
And, speaking last week, director Joel Sandborg accepted that they might have to cash in on the coveted Gigovic in order to ease those monetary concerns.
There is still hope, then, for Arsenal, Wolves and Genoa.
BT in June claimed that Arsenal were interested, while Gigovic admitted to Futbol Direkt that he was flattered to catch the eye of Wolves.
