Falkirk assistant manager James McDonaugh has told Deadline News that he thinks Rangers target Will Vaulks can ‘definitely play at a good level’ in the top flight of Scottish football.

Vaulks, 23, joined Falkirk from Tranmere Rovers back in the summer of 2013, and he went on to make almost 150 appearances for the club, notching 13 goals.

Adept at right back or in holding midfield, Vaulks impressed with Falkirk and made his move back to England last summer, joining Rotherham United on a contract until 2019.

Whilst Rotherham have struggled in the Championship, finishing bottom of the table with subsequent relegation to League One, Vaulks has emerged as one of the better performers for the Millers.

In fact, Vaulks is again attracting interest, with the Daily Mail reporting earlier this week that Rangers are keen to lure Vaulks back to Scotland, whilst Wolverhampton Wanderers are also interested.

A fee of £400,000 has been suggested, with Rangers possibly looking to finally land Vaulks having been interested in signing him from Falkirk last season (Daily Mail).

Now, Falkirk’s assistant manager James McDonaugh, who worked with Vaulks last season, has told Deadline News that he thinks Vaulks has all the attributes to be a real success in the Scottish Premiership, as he has energy, enthusiasm and desire as well as a will to learn.

McDonaugh added that he doesn’t know where Vaulks will be playing next season, but suggested that he would be a smart signing for any interested teams – a positive recommendation for Rangers.

“Will has all the attributes and can definitely play at a good level in the Premiership, I’m sure of that,” said McDonaugh. “I don’t know where he’ll go next. He could stay at Rotherham but there were a couple of teams sniffing about him when he was here at Falkirk, teams in the English Championship and from the Scottish Premiership.”

“He’s got that energy and enthusiasm, and a desire to do well. He’s a boy who I admired when I came here. The manager changed his position a wee bit and moved him from centre-half into midfield and he grabbed that with both hands. He’s got a lot of learning to do but he’s the type of boy who wants to learn and would deserve a move to a top club,” he added.
