Speaking on the Two Stars Podcast, Athletic journalist Paul Taylor has claimed that it’s fairly likely that Zach Clough will be joining Wigan Athletic.
The former Bolton man hasn’t had the best of times at Forest since joining the club in 2017, so this is arguably a move that has been long overdue.
Wigan have been linked with a move for Clough this month, and it seems as though this is a transfer that will come to fruition.
“No, I think that one’s fairly likely Zach Clough. It will be good for him as well, there have been a few clubs interested in him in the past including this January, I think there was some interest from Scotland as well,” Taylor said.
“He just needs a fresh start somewhere I don’t think he’s a bad player, I think he’s a good player who’s just lost his confidence and probably lost a huge amount of fitness because he barely plays any football.
“It will be great to see him get a fresh start somewhere else because it’s been a waste of a big portion of his career being sat on the sidelines at Forest and it’s been a waste of wages for Forest to be perfectly blunt.”

This is probably the best move for all parties.
Wigan get a talented player at that level, Clough gets the chance to play football, and Forest trim their bloated squad.
Clough won’t go down in history at Forest in the same way some of his namesakes have, but at least he’ll always be remembered for opening the scoring against Derby in the east Midlands Derby back in 2017.
We can only hope that Clough gets back to his best and has a better time in Lancashire than he did in Nottingham.
