Michael Owen told Premier League Productions during their live coverage of Liverpool’s draw against Newcastle on Saturday that Alisson Becker was ‘brilliant’ at Anfield.
The former Premier League hitman praised Newcastle for their performances and the number of chances they created against Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Heartbreak. Joy. Heartbreak and joy. Both Newcastle and Liverpool experienced that during the final few minutes of yesterday’s game.
From the Callum Wilson goal being scored to it being disallowed, and then Joe Willock channelling his inner David Fairclough by scoring from the bench once again.
It was a crazy final few minutes and this was Owen’s reaction at the full-time whistle.
“Liverpool should have wrapped up the game a lot earlier,” said Owen. “But fair play to Newcastle, they created a lot of chances at Anfield.
“Alisson has been brilliant. He made some big, big saves. You think Liverpool have got away with one with the goal being disallowed but then up steps Willock.
“What an important player he has been. He could have single-handedly kept them up. What a game.”

There have been a number of out-of-character moments from Alisson this season, but none of that was on show yesterday.
It seems as though everyone in this Liverpool side, bar perhaps Mohamed Salah and Fabinho, have struggled at some point this season.
But despite the chaos in the Anfield treatment room and the constant hits they have taken on Merseyside, there is still a chance all of that can be rescued by a top-four finish.
