Rangers’ Michael Beale has conceded that catching Celtic will be a ‘difficult’ task for him.

The 42-year-old has returned to Ibrox as manager to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst following a disastrous run of results.

As things stand, Celtic boast a nine-point lead over Rangers in the Scottish Premiership and winning two titles in succession is looking very probable for the Hoops.

Ange Postecoglou has steadied the ship at Parkhead tremendously well, after Steven Gerrard, who had Beale as a first-team coach in Glasgow, ended the Bhoys’ 10-in-a-row effort in 2021.

And Beale has admitted to Sky Sports Scotland that the Australian coach deserves credit for the job he’s done on the green side of the Old Firm divide.

He said: “It’s going to be difficult, we know that. I think that Ange has got a team that’s in momentum and fair play to him for the job that he’s done to this point. My job is to chase them down, the player’s job is to chase them down.”

The good thing about Beale is that he’ll know exactly how difficult it is in Scottish football.

He won’t be another Pedro Caixinha who had no idea how intense the rivalry with Celtic was.

Beale, as mentioned, has experienced all of this before, albeit in a different role, and it’ll be fascinating to see how he fares as Rangers’ main man now.
