Tottenham Hotspur have again been linked with Celtic striker Moussa Dembele.
Celtic’s Moussa Dembele
Earlier this week, The Sun reported that Tottenham Hotspur are confident that Celtic striker Moussa Dembele will join the club this summer – but the deal doesn’t make sense for a number of reasons.
Dembele, 20, has been a sensation in Scotland ever since his summer move from Fulham, as the Frenchman has been something of a goal machine in Glasgow.
With 32 goals in 46 games, Dembele has excelled under Brendan Rodgers, and his exploits have unsurprisingly triggered speculation surrounding a possible move back to England this summer.
The Sun claimed earlier this week that Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race for Dembele, with manager Mauricio Pochettino allegedly confident that a deal will be done – but a move looks unlikely for a whole host of reasons.
Firstly, Get West London recently reported that a £6million deal to send Dembele to Tottenham in January 2016 fell apart after the striker failed a medical in the final knockings of the transfer window.
Having clearly had major concerns over Dembele’s fitness less than 18 months ago, it’s had to see Spurs fork out a huge fee to bring to White Hart Lane this summer – and that brings us to Dembele’s price.

Celtic are in a position to demand upwards of £30million for Dembele, and with a new stadium on the way, it’s hard to see Tottenham match or break their transfer record on a striker who wouldn’t even be guaranteed first-team football.
That, in itself, is another reason why Dembele may not head to North London this summer. The striker is playing regularly at the age of 20, and could be featuring for Celtic in the Champions League again next term. Trading that in to be second fiddle behind Harry Kane seems like an unlikely choice from the striker at this stage in his career, especially with Kane seemingly not going anywhere in the foreseeable future.
Spurs had their chance to sign Dembele and passed it up, meaning it’s hard to see them pay five times the price to land him. A talented – if raw – player Dembele may be, but a move to Spurs this summer doesn’t look likely.
