Fabrizio Romano has stated that Arsenal have little chance of signing Atalanta wonderkid Rasmus Hojlund in the summer, with the Italian side keen to keep hold of the 20-year-old striker.

Writing in his CaughtOffside SubStack, the Italian transfer guru revealed that the Danish international wants to play football at a club where he is likely to be a starter, something Arsenal could fail to provide Hojlund given their striking options ahead of next season.

Romano said when asked about if the Serie A sensation will want to move to Arsenal at the end of this season: “Rasmus Hojlund has been linked with a move to Arsenal by various outlets. I’m not sure he’s going to leave Atalanta in 2023.

The reporter added as to why the Dane might not move to north London: “I don’t see Arsenal as an option for Hojlund. They have Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun. For sure, Hojlund wants to play, not be on the bench. I’m told he could stay at Atalanta for one more year.”

Likened to Manchester City sensation Erling Haaland by Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini, Hojlund is one of the most exciting talents in Europe and a player that every big club could soon want to sign, with Arsenal being linked to the striker according to La Republicca.

Indeed, whilst a younger striker for the long-term could be ideal for Arsenal, especially a forward with a different profile to what Jesus and Nketiah provide, Romano is right to predict that Hojlund wouldn’t want to sign for the north London club given how few chances the Danish international would actually get.

Hojlund is very much at the start of his career, with the striker only signing for Atalanta last summer in what has so far been a breakout year for the youngster, yet whilst talk of a move to Arsenal is exciting, the Scandinavian talent should remain in Bergamo for an extra year.

As we know, Atalanta are one of the best clubs in Europe when it comes to developing players, and Hojlund is in the perfect environment to improve his game before signing for a big club in 2024, such as an Arsenal, who could want a striker of his profile in 18 months time.
