Fabrizio Romano has said Brighton & Hove Albion won’t sell Moises Caicedo in January, ruining Liverpool’s hope of signing the midfielder in the coming weeks.

Speaking to CaughtOffside, the Italian journalist revealed that the Premier League side have no intention on allowing Caicedo to leave in January, with Liverpool one of the many clubs interested in signing the Ecuador international, who this season has enjoyed a breakout campaign.

Caicedo has been a regular for Brighton in the Premier League as well as a star player for Ecuador in their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign, with the midfielder scoring in the South American nation’s final match of the competition in a 2-1 loss against Senegal.

Valued by Brighton at £85m according to the Mirror, Liverpool always faced a mountain when trying to sign Caicedo in the January window. Yet Romano’s latest update has seemingly ended the Reds hopes of bringing the youngster from the south coast to Merseyside.

Indeed, Caicedo will likely earn a huge move in the summer if the midfielder’s form is anything to go by this season. Yet according to Romano, the Ecuadorian superstar will remain a Brighton player in the January window despite the big interest in the youngster from the likes of Liverpool.

The transfer guru said: “Caicedo is not expected to leave in January, the situation is still the same. Liverpool, Man United but also other clubs are monitoring him; he’s been on Manchester United’s list for years but then nothing happened. I’m sure Brighton will try to keep him at least until June.”

Caicedo might be off the table in January, but that doesn’t mean Liverpool should pack up their interest in the midfielder entirely, with a move in the summer now something the Reds must prioritise ahead of a huge transfer window in the off-season.

As we know, central midfield is a position Liverpool have to revamp in 2023, and signing Caicedo as a cornerstone for this change will go a long way in the Merseyside club making their next evolutionary step under Jurgen Klopp.
