It looks like Cristian Romero is set to be Spurs’ third signing of the summer.
The Argentine centre-back has reportedly agreed personal terms with the London club, and now all Tottenham have to do is negotiate with Atalanta over a fee.
Of course, this is Tottenham Hotspur we’re talking about, and as we all know by now, signings are very rarely straightforward for the London club.
Luckily, Fabio Paratici has a plan B, and Fabrizio Romano has shared Spurs’ backup plan on social media.
So, if Spurs don’t sign Romero, they’ll look to sign three centre-backs for the same price.
It’s certainly an interesting strategy, and Spurs would be getting a lot more bang for their buck if they signed Nikola Milenkovic, Kurt Zouma and Takehiro Tomiyasu rather than just Romero.
This may just go to show how highly Spurs rate Romero in that they’d rather sign him than any of the three other options.
Of course, if Spurs were to sign Milenkovic, Zouma and Tomiyasu, the squad would be rather bloated, and you’d have to wonder whether or not there will be further departures at centre-half.
At the moment though, Romero is their priority, and this is certainly a situation to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
