Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a new manager.
The journalist says that Spurs’ status in Europe next season will be vital when it comes to speaking to targets and deciding who they want to appoint.
Of course, Tottenham are on the periphery of the top four, but their place in the Champions League or the Europa League next season is far from guaranteed.
Romano says that their continental qualification status is very important when it comes to deciding on their new manager.
“European football is important also to decide on their manager. They’ve been talking to many managers in the last weeks. They had an idea with Brendan Rodgers, but he wants to stay at Leicester,” Romano said.
“They were talking with Ten Hag, but then Tottenham decided to change their position, now it is time to talk with other managers, but European football is so important when Tottenham are deciding on their next manager.”
This is certainly interesting to hear.
The question everyone should have after hearing this is, who are Spurs’ targets?
We know that someone like Max Allegri only wants a job with a Champions League club, while we can imagine a gaffer like Scott Parker or Graham Potter would jump at the chance of working in the Europa League.
It remains to be seen who Tottenham appoint, but it seems as though those decisions can’t be made until we know where they finish in the league table.
