Arsenal have been heavily linked with Everton’s Amadou Onana ahead of the summer transfer window.
Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad have reported that Arsenal are in ‘constant contact’ with Onana’s representatives.
It’s stated that both the Gunners and Chelsea are speaking to the 21-year-old’s camp at present.
However, Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that Arsenal don’t have him on their summer wish-list.
The transfer insider, writing on CaughtOffside, suggested the Gunners have different priorities for the next window.
Likewise, Romano is not sure whether the Blues are actively looking to bring Onana to West London.
Nevertheless, the Italian says there certainly is interest in the Toffees ace.
He predicted that any clubs looking to sign Onana would have to pay between £55m and £60m.
“Everton midfielder Amadou Onana is attracting interest again as some fans ask me about reports mentioning both Chelsea and Arsenal,” Romano said.
“He was on Chelsea’s list in January, but I’m not sure yet if it’s something concrete for them in the summer. Arsenal have different names in the list at this stage.
“I think his price tag would be close to £55-60m.”
Our view
Arsenal bolstered their midfield ranks in January by bringing Jorginho to the Emirates from Chelsea.
However, there is still scope for the Gunners to sign more midfielders in the summer.
Onana is a top player who Roberto Martinez has deemed “one of the most talented youngsters in Europe.
However, the Belgium international will be a difficult signing to make.
With his contract running until 2027, Everton will hold pretty much all the cards in negotiations.
At least, if they stay up. But even if they don’t, there will surely be plenty of clubs in pursuit of Onana’s services.
In that case, a bidding war could arise and push the price up.
