Tottenham and Newcastle are reportedly eyeing up a loan deal for Alvaro Morata, but Fabrizio Romano says he has been “told” that there is no proposal from Spurs as of yet – and Morata is likely to remain at Juventus.
Juve are closing in on the signing of superstar striker Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina and with Spain ace Morata struggling to reproduce his best form this term – there were suggestions his loan at Juve could be binned.
Indeed, 29-year-old Morata produced 20 goals and 12 assists last term – the first of a two-year loan spell from Atletico Madrid. This term, he has scored only eight goals so far. Vlahovic pushes him down the pecking order.
COPE reported that Tottenham and Newcastle were eyeing loan moves, with Diego Simeone preferring him to move to England than to rivals Barcelona. But Romano says he has been told Morata is likely to stay at Juve
“I’m told that there is no proposal from Tottenham for Morata. The striker will have huge chances to stay at Juventus until the end of the season. The priority will be a different kind of player,” Romano told Last Word on Spurs.
Morata should consider Newcastle and Tottenham, amid Romano claim
With Vlahovic arriving, Morata’s game time is going to dramatically reduce. The big Serbian star will instantly be the club’s first-choice striker and Morata is going to be warming the bench, getting the odd start if lucky.
If Newcastle and Tottenham do come calling with a few days left in the window, then they have seriously got to consider a move. But it will be complicated, given he is on loan at Juventus – who will want to keep him.
It could be down to the will of the player and how much he pushes an exit. However, Romano stating that he looks likely to stay might show a willingness to fight for his place – ahead of the arrival of Vlahovic.
