Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with Julian Nagelsmann in recent weeks.

In March, The Telegraph reported that he was Daniel Levy’s top target to replace Antonio Conte at Spurs.

However, Tottenham seemingly fell behind in the race to sign Nagelsmann amid links with Chelsea.

The 35-year-old has indeed spoken to the Blues, but on Friday night, he reportedly pulled the plug on a move.

Fabrizio Romano has been keeping Spurs and Chelsea fans informed with Twitter updates on the state of play.

On Friday afternoon, he tweeted an exclusive, saying he withdrew from the race to take the Blues reins.

Later on in the day, Romano relayed comments from an interview Nagelsmann conducted with Sky Sport Germany.

When asked about the situation, he said: “To cancel something, you have to commit to something”.

Romano then stressed that it’s “definitely over” between Nagelsmann and Chelsea, due to “different views on crucial points.”

Tottenham must try their luck again as Chelsea miss out – our view

Chelsea’s loss could well be Tottenham’s gain as they continue their search for a new permanent manager.

Nagelsmann is a “phenomenal” coach who seems like a perfect fit for Spurs.

He’s a young, hungry, incredibly talented and smart manager who already has top-level experience.

Nagelsmann could well be eager for a long-term project, which would suit Tottenham down to a tee.

There’s a lot of work that needs doing at Spurs in terms of revamping the squad.

You also have the uncertainty over Harry Kane’s future, so that needs to be settled.

Now Nagelsmann is done with Chelsea, Spurs may well decide – and should – to try their luck again for his services.
