Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared an interesting update on West Ham’s pursuit of Cagliari striker Giovanni Simeone.
The Hammers have been linked with a plethora of attackers this month after selling Sebastien Haller to Ajax, and Simeone is the most recent forward to reportedly catch the eye of West Ham.
Romano says that Simeone is a name that has been proposed to West Ham, but there is nothing advanced on that front as of yet.
“West Ham need a striker after selling Haller to Ajax. We have rumours about Gio Simeone here in Italy from Cagliari, but at the moment there is nothing advanced yet.
“So, West Ham have not done an official bid, it was like you know a lot of players are proposed to West Ham at this stage because they want a striker, but at the moment there is nothing advanced with West Ham and Simeone.
“En-Nesyri from Sevilla was the real target, but it’s really really difficuly, Sevilla are not open to selling players in January.”
This is certainly interesting to hear.
We know that the Hammers want to sign En-Nesyri, but it seems as though Simeone is now another option as Sevilla don’t want to sell their striker.
With all due respect to David Moyes’ side, we can understand why the Europa League winners are unwilling to sell En-Nesyri to them, and buying a player from Cagliari seems like a much more realistic target for the Hammers.
There’s nothing advanced yet, but with just over a week to go in the window, we know that everything can change very quickly, and it’s clear that Simeone is a name that is on their radar.
