Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on Harry Kane’s future and a potential new contract for the Tottenham Hotspur striker.
The Premier League landscape was rocked earlier this week after it was reported that Kane has expressed his desire to leave Spurs this summer, and while Romano says that this is true, he says the club view things rather differently.
The journalist says that Tottenham plan on offering Kane a new contract once they’ve appointed a new manager who can convince him about the club’s vision.
“I want to start by talking about what is going on behind the scenes with Harry Kane and Tottenham. So the news reported by Sky a few days ago is true. So Harry Kane’s desire to leave Tottenham is confirmed, he wants to go, he’s convinced he wants to play Champions League football and he wants to find a solution in the next weeks. So Harry Kane is waiting to find a solution and he wants to leave Tottenham,” Romano said.
“So it is his desire, it’s not an official transfer request, so the situation is basically, he wants to go, but now he needs to speak to Tottenham and see what happens, because Kane is respecting Tottenham’s decision and is waiting to see the next steps from the club.
“From Tottenham, they said that the player is not leaving the club, he has three years of contract left on his agreement, so they’re still convinced they want to keep Harry Kane, but when this kind of player wants to go, it’s very difficult. So let’s see how it develops with Daniel Levy, we know he’s always so strong in negotiations, and he wants to keep the top players, so it won’t be easy to negotiate with him.
“One thing I want to add is that in Tottenham’s plans is that they want to keep Harry Kane and they want to offer him a new contract to convince him about the vision with the new manager that they’re going to appoint in the next weeks, but Kane, as of today, he’s not accepting any proposal of a new contract from Tottenham.”
If this is Spurs’ plan, it’s so important for them to get the right manager in.
Would Kane be swayed by someone like Scott Parker coming into north London? You’d have to imagine that he wouldn’t be, but the arrival of someone like Hansi Flick or Max Allegri could change the striker’s opinion.
Kane’s future is likely to be a red-hot story this summer, and right now, it looks as though the forward is keen to get out of north London.
