Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to share some bad news for Tottenham and Newcastle, involving Real Madrid maestro Luka Modric.
What’s the story?
Well, the reliable Italian journalist has now revealed that the Tottenham and Newcastle target is expected to sign a new contract.
It comes after Super Deporte claimed that both Spurs and the Magpies wanted to sign the £30m man.
The Premier League duo were lurking around Modric, as his contract is set to expire in June.
However, it now looks like he’ll be staying at the Santiago Bernabeu.
You can see Romano’s tweet in full below.
When that contract extension expires in June 2023, Modric will be 37 years of age, so it feels unlikely that he’ll make another move after that.
This year could be Tottenham and Newcastle’s last chance to sign the 146-cap Croatia international, but he looks set to stay in Spain.
Tottenham and Newcastle shouldn’t worry

In our view, Modric would’ve struggled to get back into the swing of Premier League football if he returned to these shores, as good as he is.
The Zadar-born maestro oozes composure, and from a technical aspect, could easily hold his own in the Premier League at his age.
However, from a physical point of view, we think Modric would struggle to readjust to life in England’s top-flight, as the Real Madrid No.10 is fairly small and skinny.

Additionally, Modric earns £275,000-a-week at Real Madrid.
In our view, it wouldn’t be worth it for Spurs or Newcastle to commit to such a salary, just in case Modric isn’t capable of delivering the goods anymore.
