Fabrizio Romano has said that Ajax defender Jurrien Timber is dreaming of joining another top club in Europe amid reports that Liverpool and Tottenham want to sign the youngster.

Speaking to CaughtOffside, the Italian transfer guru revealed that the 21-year-old Netherlands international is keen to move on from Ajax to sign for another big side on the continent, with the news coming after 90min reported that Liverpool and Tottenham are interested in Timber.

Romano said on Timber’s transfer dreams: “Ajax don’t even want to speak to clubs about Timber now, so it will be something to see in June. for sure, Timber signed a short contract last year because his dream remains to join another top European club in the future.”

With an asking price of £36m according to the Mirror, Timber is regarded by many as one of the best defensive talents in Europe, with the defender featuring for Holland at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and winning plenty of praise for his ability to play numerous positions across the backline.

Whilst Ajax have endured a rough season following the departure of Erik Ten Hag last summer, Timber has remained a consistent performer for the Dutch giants this campaign, and there’s now a chance that the defender could be heading to the Premier League amid new interest from Liverpool and Tottenham.

Moreover, Romano’s comments seem to indicate that the centre-back is keen on a move to an English side, with many of Ajax’s best players in recent years all making the move to the Premier League, with Liverpool and Tottenham now well-positioned to sign the youngster.

Timber’s stock continues to rise after another impressive individual season for Ajax as the defender also continues to stake a claim as a regular in the Dutch senior set-up, and for Liverpool and Tottenham, a battle could soon spark out between the two English sides to sign the 21-year-old.

As we know, Timber is one of the highest-rated youngsters in Europe, and with the centre-back seemingly keen on a move away from Amsterdam this summer, the Premier League seems like a logical next step for the defender, who could sign for either Liverpool or Tottenham.
