Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that PSG were looking at signing Jordan Henderson before the opportunity to sign Lionel Messi came about.
PSG signed Messi this summer in what was one of the biggest moves of all time, but before the six-time Ballon d’Or winner was on the market, they had their eyes on another player.
Indeed, Romano claims that PSG wanted to sign Henderson from Liverpool before they went for Messi.
What’s been said?
Romano shared his information on PSG’s interest in Henderson.
“For Jordan Hednerson, I want to say, behind the scenes, PSG were thinking about signing Jordan Henderson as a potential new signing before the Leo Messi opportunity, because Messi was an opportunity and they jumped into that deal,” Romano said.
“Before signing Messi they wanted a midfielder, Pogba was complicated because Man United wanted to keep him and PSG were looking at Henderson before he had an agreement with Liverpool. Liverpool were very good with their strategy, they had the right proposal at the right moment and Henderson then had an agreement on a new deal.”

Sliding doors moment
What a strange world we live in.
Lionel Messi leaving Barcelona may have inadvertently led to Jordan Henderson signing his new Liverpool contract as PSG turned their attentions to the Argentine.
It’s bizarre to think that PSG ditched a move for Henderson to sign Messi. After all, they’re not similar players in any way, but in terms of finances and registration rules, it makes a bit of sense.
Luckily for the Reds, the Ligue 1 giants didn’t swoop for Liverpool’s captain and the England international ended up putting pen to paper on a new long-term contract at Anfield.
