Fabrizio Romano says Newcastle are interested in signing Leeds United winger Raphinha – but a deal depends on whether Leeds are relegated. The Toon “love” the Brazilian, and have been exploring a deal for some time.

Leeds are in the midst of a relegation scrap and with two league games to play, the Whites find themselves in real danger of relegation. They take on Brighton and Brentford next, while Burnley are level on points.

Raphinha, 25, is likely to leave Leeds in the summer – after two years at Elland Road. His departure is likely, whether Leeds stay up or go down. Now, Romano says Newcastle are keen and have been for some time.

Romano says Newcastle “love” Raphinha and have been exploring the possibility of a deal for some time – but that Barcelona are leading the charge. Italian journalist Romano claims a deal would be difficult.

“A player they love is Raphinha from Leeds,” Romano told Wondergoal. “We know that Barcelona are leading the race to sign him, but Newcastle have been exploring this possibility for a long time.

“It’s going to be more than complicated because Barcelona are already in advanced talks. On the player side, it depends if Leeds go down or not. This is the model for them. To go for players who are ready for the present.”

Romano: Newcastle want Raphinha, Leeds star a stunning signing

Raphinha has a value of £64million (TalkSPORT) by Leeds, but that could significantly reduce if the Whites are relegation – something Newcastle could play a part in, as they take on Burnley on the last day of the season.

Newcastle could end up selling Allan Saint-Maximin and the Toon may need to replace him – Raphinha would be a superb replacement. Whether the Toon can tempt him to ignore the lure of Barcelona, is up in the air.
