Fabrizio Romano has reported on Monday morning that Newcastle will make their move to sign Manchester United star Jesse Lingard in the “next few hours”. Lingard remains out of contract at Old Trafford in June.
Lingard, 29, has started just two of his 14 appearances for Manchester United this season – after returning to the club following a superb loan at West Ham. Despite his Hammers form, he has not been given a chance.
The Telegraph reported last week that Newcastle tried to sign him for £12million, permanently. Now, it appears that Newcastle are trying to sign him on a loan deal until the end of the season – when he is then a freebie.
Romano has now reported on Monday morning that Newcastle are going to pursue a loan deal until the end of the season for Lingard – with “negotiations ongoing”. Romano says Newcastle will push in the next hours.
Romano on Lingard: Newcastle could save season with signing
Lingard showed at West Ham last season that not only can he go on loan and hit the ground running, but he gives Newcastle something they do not have. Newcastle lack a right winger, or a 10, that provides a goal threat.
The Toon have given themselves a chance after a superb 1-0 win over Leeds on Saturday, at Elland Road. It is also perfect timing in the window, showing potential signings that they have a real chance of escaping the drop.
Signing Lingard enormously improves their chances, and keeping them up gives Newcastle the chance to bring him in on a permanent basis. It is a move that the Toon need to happen in the next few days.
