According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool and Chelsea are still trying to convince David Alaba to join them, despite his agreement with Real Madrid.

The 28-year-old is said to have had a verbal agreement with Zinedine Zidane’s side since January.

However, the 76-cap Austria international is yet to actually put pen to paper on a contract, hence why Liverpool and Chelsea haven’t given up.

Romano adds that Alaba’s pre-contract is ‘almost ready’ to be signed, and that the defender’s priority is to join Real Madrid above all.

It sounds as if he’s 90% on his way to the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, Liverpool and Chelsea’s persistence is admirable as they try to convince one of Europe’s best defenders to join them.

A player of Alaba’s quality rarely becomes available for nothing, so it’s no wonder that the Premier League duo are still trying to sign him.

The Bayern Munich No.27 has won nine Bundesliga titles throughout his career, while also being named Austrian Footballer of the Year seven times.

Alaba also has six DFB-Pokal cups to his name, as well as two Champions Leagues, two Club World Cups and two UEFA Super Cups as Transfermarkt shows.

He is one of the most decorated players around, and would immediately become one of the Premier League’s most high-profile figures if Liverpool or Chelsea could get their hands on him.
