Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has delivered an update on Liverpool’s pursuit of Ibrahima Konate, claiming that Jurgen Klopp is convinced that he’ll be perfect for the Reds.

Konate has long-been linked with a move to Liverpool and it seems as though a move to Anfield is edging closer and closer.

Indeed, the Reds are reportedly on the verge of bringing the Frenchman in, and Klopp is supposedly an absolutely massive fan of the defender.

“Step by step Liverpool are getting closer to signing Konate. The agreement is really close and it will be completed in the next days I’m told,” Romano said.

“So Konate will play for Liverpool, I’m really convinced that he’s joining Anfield. Also he wanted to join Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp is pushing. He’s convinced that he will be perfect at centre-back next season. An agreement for a five-year contract is almost ready. Konate is really close to joining Liverpool, other Premier League clubs were talking with his agents, but now Liverpool are leading the race.”

It sounds as though Konate wouldn’t just be coming in as a depth option at Liverpool.

If Klopp believes that he’ll be perfect at centre-back next season, it’s surely bad news for Joe Gomez who has been Virgil van Dijk’s first-choice partner for some time now.

Of course, the time will come when van Dijk’s powers begin to wane, and with Konate and Gomez both being under the age of 24, Liverpool could have the perfect centre-half pairing of the future.
